Israel Vacuum Society - Science, Technology and Applications

The Israel Vacuum Society Home Page

The Israel Vacuum Society (IVS) was constituted and registered in October 1968. The IVS currently maintains an active mailing list of over 400, and includes 3 separately chartered divisions: crystal growth, hydrides, and plasma.

Members of the society work in a wide range of fields including nanotechnology, optoelectronics, low-k dielectrics, hard coatings, thin films, self assembly, sensors, bio-interfaces, electronic materials, MEMS, thermodynamics and kinetics of processes, and surface dynamics.

Main goals and activities of the society

1) To promote and stimulate professional communication among its members and between itself and similar societies.

2) To initiate educational programs at various scientific levels.

These goals are met by several functions:

I. National Conferences, including Scientific Sessions, Commercial Exhibit, and most recently an Employment Center.

II. Workshops on topical subjects. Recent topics included: New Developments in Vacuum Science and Technology (May, 1999) Science and Technology of Nanostructures (April, 1998) Workshops are also run in conjunction with a commercial exhibit.

III. Courses: Courses are available in a range of topics including calibration and measurement of vacuum, vacuum processes, surface measurements, and others. In addition, the society is currently organizing an archive of technical monographs for the use of its members.

International Membership

The IVS is a member of the International Union of Vacuum Science and Technology (IUVSTA) and has a cooperative agreement with the American Vacuum Society (AVS).
