Eighth Torah and Science Conference

The annual conference on Torah and Science has become a permanent feature on the Israeli Torah landscape. The conference venue alternates between Bar-Ilan University and Jerusalem College of Technology - Machon Lev. The focus of the conference will be on topics such as:

Conflicts between Torah and Science, Creation, Cosmogenesis, Evolution, Divine Providence, Critique of Biblical Criticism, Historical Aspects, Torah and Archaeology, Technology in Talmud ie. literature, and Education in Torah and Science.

It is not intended to include topics such as: Halacha and Technology, Medicine and Halacha or Medical Ethics. These subjects are well covered in other forums.

The Conference Symposium is entitled: "Genetic Engineering of Human Beings: Permissible or Forbidden?"

Presentations and Call for Papers

There will be a few lectures (about 40 minutes each), and a number of short presentations (20 minutes each), in either English or Hebrew at the discretion of the speaker, with preference for Hebrew. The papers presented will be published in BDD, the journal of Torah and Scholarship edited by Cyril Domb (Bar-Ilan University Press), subject to refereeing prior to publication.

The Conference Committee, invites suggestions for papers. Proposed titles for papers should be submitted, together with a synopsis of 300 words, by 31 December 2000 to Sara L. Baime at Machon Lev.

This is a one-day conference, starting at 9:30 AM and ending at around 5:00 PM.
